How guiding works
Guiding or a lesson, and when to have both
A lesson is about how you ski. Private ski guiding across the Three Valleys is about where you ski. If you want more control on steeper ground, book a lesson. If you are happy on blues and some reds and want to see the area properly, book guiding. Plenty of people want both, and that works well.
Who guiding suits
Skiers who handle blues and some reds and want to see more than one valley. Friends or family of roughly the same standard who would rather not argue over a piste map. People on a short break who need their bearings fast. Anyone who has skied Méribel for years and never crossed into Belleville.
What actually happens
We agree a rough plan on the first lift and change it as we go. Where the sun is, which pistes are quiet at that hour, somewhere sensible to stop and eat, and getting back before the last connection closes. Many seasons here means the route choice is not guesswork.
Pistes and links, not off piste
Guiding here means the pistes and the links between the valleys. Off piste is a separate conversation, because it turns on the snow, the avalanche conditions and knowing the line. Some objectives need a qualified mountain guide rather than an instructor. Ask me before you book.
Where we meet, and how long
We meet at La Chaudanne by the Rhodos bubble, or in Mottaret. If you are staying in Méribel Village we can meet where the Golf chairlift ends, near the Altiport chairlift. Guiding runs from one hour up to four. A single hour is only bookable later in the season. More on lesson types and locations.
