How a first lesson works
Who a first lesson suits
Adults going on a first ski holiday who have never had skis on. Someone who had one lesson years ago and never got past it. Children taking their first turns. Anyone who thinks they left it too late. You have not. Lessons are private, and you can book alone or with people you know.
Beginner, or nervous skier?
There is a difference worth knowing before you book. A beginner has never skied. A nervous skier usually has, and something about it went wrong. If you are starting from nothing you are in the right place. If you have lost your confidence, see nervous skier lessons.
What actually happens in a first lesson
We start on flat snow, not on a slope. Getting the boots on, clipping into the skis, moving about, sliding, and stopping because you decided to. Those first ten minutes take away more fear than anything else. Then gliding, speed control and your first turns in a snowplough.
How I teach it
I use a two-way headset, fitted to your helmet at the start of the lesson. You hear me at normal talking volume instead of picking out shouted instructions from up the slope. You get the reason behind each movement too. Lifts come in when you want them, walked through first.
Meeting point and lesson length
Lessons start and finish at the base of the Rhodos bubble at La Chaudanne in Méribel Centre. If you are staying in Mottaret we can meet in front of the Tourist Office. They run from one hour up to four hours, though a single hour is only bookable later in the season. See all the lesson types and locations.
