What a one to one lesson is like
Who these lessons suit
One to one ski lessons in Méribel are not only for beginners, and not only for nervous skiers. People who would rather learn without an audience. Skiers who are fine on blues and tighten up on reds. Adults who want the reason, not just a movement to copy. Anyone with three or four days to use well.
What actually happens
We ski first, then talk. I watch a few turns before I say much, because most of what I need to know is in how you move rather than how you describe yourself. Then I ask what you have been stuck on, and what you want to be doing by the end of the week.
One or two things, not ten
Skiing does not improve because somebody lists every fault. It improves when one change is explained clearly, tried on a run that suits it, and repeated until it stops feeling like an instruction. The pace is yours. If it lands we move on, if it does not we stay with it.
Where we meet, and how long
Most lessons start at La Chaudanne, at the base of the Rhodos bubble lift. There are other meeting points for people staying in Mottaret or Méribel Village, worth asking about when you book. Lessons run from one hour up to four hours, morning or afternoon. A single hour is only bookable later in the season.
If nerves are the thing in the way
Plenty of people book a one to one lesson because a class feels like an audience. That is a good reason, and a common one. Nobody is waiting on you and nobody is watching. There is a whole page on it if that is you, ski lessons for when nerves are holding you back.
